Question regarding sponsoring spouse

Hi

I've just got a question, I'm a Canadian citizen and been living in Canada for the past 14 years I'm about to apply for my spouse visa, but I recently got layed off and currently waiting for my EI benefits so do I still qualify to apply for my spouse? because I was going through the application, it says A: Unemployed "Give details of you're current situation and indicate how you support yourself."

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could answer this question

yes you should be fine....as long as you do not go on welfare/social assistance.....just give them details like they asked....

If you are sponsoring your spouse, there is no income requirement. So CIC wants to see that you have a plan, and that you are serious about it, but if you don't have a job right now, it will not affect your situation. My partner is a student (outside of Canada) and has not been working during the last 3 years ( well - he worked 5 months in total in 3 years, summer jobs), and he doesn't have a job offer in Canada, but he has been approved to sponsor me, so you should be good!

I just read in another post that EI benefits are not considered welfare, so it won't disqualify you to sponsor your spouse.

Just explain what resources you currently have ( savings etc) and also maybe include what are your plans for getting a job (contacts you have had with future employers etc) and you should be approved.
