Question regarding change in job CEC category

Hi all,

I have a quick question for a friend. He worked in IT for the last 1.5 years but was laid off due to COVID.
He is now working in a restaurant. When reviewed his new job NOC, it has some extra points. The question is can he apply in express entry with his new job in CEC category or does he have to wait for another 1 year?

Any help with the question would be great. Thanks.

He can set up an Express Entry profile using his old IT work experience.

Whether he can use the restaurant experience depends on his occupation / NOC.

Thanks scylla for the reply. He would like to apply with his new job (not related to his 1st job). The two jobs are different NOCs
Can he apply with his first job (CEC) and say that he was laid off so had to take another job that is completely different ( as the 2nd job is non-IT)?
