I just have a quick question, that I'm hoping someone knows the answer to!
My passport name is still my maiden name, therefore it is what I used on my outland application, and what I have used since being in Canada (on a visitor permit), because my ID is all in maiden name. I would like my PR card to be in my married name though, as that's the name I've wanted to use all along, but haven't because of my ID being different. What will I need to do to ensure my PR card will be in my married name? Change my passport and then notify CIC?
if you haven't been approved and landed yet, yes all you have to do is update your passport to your married name, send a copy to your visa office and request the name to be changed on your application. requesting this change is easiest to do while your applicaiton is still in queue or processing.
if your copr is already issued, and you want to change your name, you will need to get your passport updated and send your COPR back to CIC for a new one to be issued in your new name.
if you have already been approved and landed, then you will need to get your passport updated with your name, then pay for a new PR card to be reissued in your new name, and then change all other applicable canadian id's to your new name (driver's license, healthcare card, etc).

yes, absolutely. get it done asap and send a copy to you visa office when it's done. if you are from the us, there is a chance you'll get a speedy process and may get ppr before your passport is ready. if that happens, you can send them a note letting them know you are updating your passport, and will send it as soon as it's available. it shouldn't be a problem. it would just delay your approval until you can send in your updated passport.
