Question about passport copies

In the document checklist, number 8 is Travel documents and passports.
It says that I need to send copies of my passport and IDs.
Does this copies need to be notarized.

I notarized all the copies of other documents like university diploma, letter from my employer etc. Also I notarized all the translations.
But i think that I need to send just copies of my passport and IDs and I don't need to notarized them.

Any opinion?

yes you have to notarized passport copies as well IDs and if any thing which is not in English you have to translate it and again you have to notarized it .......

This year CIC has not asked for certified/notarized copies of all documents for initial submission of application. Page 2 of the Document Checklist IMM5612 clearly says "...that original or certified copies of document or more information may be requested by an officer at a later date"

Only translations of documents that are not in either English of French need to be certified/notarized.

Translation of documents

Any document that is not in English or French must be accompanied by:

the English or French translation; and
an affidavit from the person who completed the translation; and
a certified copy of the original document.

Certified true copies

To have a photocopy of a document certified, an authorized person must compare the original document to the photocopy and must print the following on the photocopy:

“I certify that this is a true copy of the original document”,
the name of the original document,
the date of the certification,
his or her name,
his or her official position or title, and
his or her signature.



Now I am confused?

No need to confuse notarization is mandatory ...........

The part "Certified true copies" is just a clarification on attaching a certified copy of the original (non English/non French) document. It is not implying that copies of all documents need to be certified. This is why it is specifically placed after and under the "Translation of Documents" section

If CIC needed certified copies of all documents in the first place they would have mentioned in clearly. There are many 2013 applicants who sent plain copies of their English document and have already got their PER.

If your passport and ID document are in all English or French. no need to certify. If they are in any other language only then you need to attach a certified copy of just the original (non English/French) document.
