If someone’s course is 1 year 3 months, how would the visa officer go about calculating the proof funds? Would I need let’s say 30k or 42k as proof of funds? (Excluding tuition fees)

So consideration will likely be made for not only the first year but how you can pay for the degree after the foundation year. Doing a foundation year is not very common so hard to comment on what IRCC will view as adequate proof and funds. You’re essentially being asked to show funds upfront and then source of funds for 4 more years after that. If you can’t afford to live and study in Canada for the degree program no point in doing a foundation year.

Thanks for your input. The first study permit would be for the foundation year only and then I would have to apply another study permit when I enrol into the actual bachelors program. Now I am only talking about my first permit…. Legally how much should he see in liquid for these 1 year and 3 months? Would he consider it to be 2 years and round it and ask for 42k ?

So it is ICM. You show $21k plus tuition for foundation year. When apply for next one you show the same amount of funds for living expenses and tuition plus a plan to pay for the remaining years.
