Hello,
Me and my partner r planning to apply for fswp as common law partners. We both live together for more than a year and it shows we share the same address in our id's and passports. Is this enough as a proof of our common law partnership? Or do we have to show more documents.
P.S. I own the apartment that we live in. Should I submit the ownership document if it will be of any benefit?
Thank you for your reply
No - this isn't sufficient proof of common law. You will have to provide additional evidence that shows you have been living together for at least a full year. Examples can be: joint utility bills, bank statements sent to the same address that date back at least a year, pay stubbs listing the same address, affidavits from friends / family members confirming you have cohabitated at the same address for at least a year, etc.
The apartment ownership document will be of no benefit if only you are listed as an owner.
My partner and I applied as common law. We only sent in the following:
Proof of joint bank account
Phone bills with same address
Reservation printout from our vacation
But since we are in Canada and our various work permits, study permits, visas over a period of time were applied for with the same address on each of our applications, those documents also showed the same address and it helped with the consistency I guess, though we didn't include them as proof.
