Hi. I have landed as a new immigrant (spouse sponsor) few days ago. At the airport, I had to show the disembarkation card first (like any visitor does) and then i was sent to another room where an immigration officer checked my landing paper. He asked me a few questions and had me signed the landing paper. I was given one of the inner pages (carbon copy) of the landing paper (this is a copy of the IMM5292) and he told me that i would get my PR card within 3-4 weeks. I was given some helpful booklets and information about SIN card and health card by two other officers. But i was never asked to write down if i would bring anything from my homeland in future (personal belongings like a car or a TV). Was I supposed to give that list? Did i miss any step in the whole procedure? I don't have anything to bring anyway, but was that a requirement of any kind? Please let me know.
if you were planning to bring anything, you should give them Goods to follow list. That would be tax free for you to import to Canada ( for cars - you can't sell them in 12 months, or you'll have to pay taxes).
There is a form you were supposed to submit to customs after you finished with immigration to declare the goods you were bringing or plan to bring into the country. Here is a link...
Thanks to both of you. The information was helpful. I wont be bringing anything else, other than my cloths, books perhaps. So I think i better stop worrying about this. Thanks again.
