I am an applicant from china. I have just submitted an application of a thesis based master program at Queen's U for 2020 May admission about 2 weeks ago. I have just recieved an automated system email telling me that my application won't be reviewed untill 2020 Feb, and the result won't be avaliable untill the end of March. I am so desperated that it looks like there won't be enough time for applying study permit for 2020 May admission within a month. Is this kind of arrangement very normal in Canadian university or could it possilbe that the university may mistakenly consider me as applying for 2020 september admission?
Masters admissions are not normally reviewed until the semester before. Most masters programs don’t have summer admissions. Most universities mostly shut down during the summer session.

Thank you for your reply. I am sure there is amission on may for queen's U. The point I am concerning is why university make it almost impossiple to apply for a study permit. I don't know if this is normal for canadian university. If I knew this before application, I would apply for september.

Not sure what you mean. It is very normal for admission committees to review applications around February for the next term. They often need to see results from the previous terms and allow people to apply. It isn’t impossible to get a study permit in order to start in May. If it does take too long you can ask the school if they can defer your admission until September.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. It helped a lot. I think all I can do for now is wait for the offer first and submit the application for study permit right after I get the offer.
