Sorry if this is posted in incorrect thread...
...I was helping a friend apply for permanent residency in Canada this week.
She has been a foreign skilled worker there for a number of years.
As part of her application for PR, she has gotten a police clearance from Ireland (her native country), which shows she has a traffic conviction dating back to 2006 for careless driving.
At this time, she was not even a fully licensed driver. She was a Learner Driving, driving under the supervision of her father (this is the system in Ireland...you drive with an experienced driver until you get your own license).
She has had a full drivers' license for nine years and it is clean.
In Ireland, careless driving is only a summary offence. It is a misdemeanor. She was does not have a criminal conviction, it is road traffic only. She paid the fine of 250 euro (about 350 dollars) at the time. She is obtaining documentation to support all of this.
My question is, could this really impact her in applying for PR? We are getting conflicting advice from different websites. And her lawyer seems to think that perhaps it could. Surely not...I mean, she was a learner at the time and it was 11 years ago! She hasn't even gotten a scrape since! Hardly a threat to national security!
Any advice greatly appreciated.
