I live in USA. I got the following message from CIC that my PR visa is ready. It asks me to send a copy of my passport, photos, and "self addressed" envelope. It says:
If you have a mailing address in the U.S.A.:
- The Self-Addressed pre-paid envelope should be arranged with a courier that delivers between Canada and the U.S.A.
- Submit all documents by mail in a single package and send to the following address:
CPC – Ottawa – PR
365 Laurier Avenue West
Ottawa ON K1A 1L1
---------------
My question is: Can I use FedEx to send it? How FedEx works for "self-addressed envelope"? Does anyone have experience with FedEx or UPS? Which is better?
you can use Fedex. If your not sure how to do it go to a fedex office and they will help set you up. I got mine back a week to a week and half after I mailed it back.
Where did you go to get your pictures? I am in this situation right now and FedEx is being very helpful but now I am having trouble finding a place to do my pictures. DO you have any suggestions?
For pictures, be aware that walmart etc won't do Canadian PR sized photos. You'll need to go to a photography studio. If you Google for Canadian passport pictures near your zip code, you should be able to find one. We found an experienced photo studio that did foreign passport photos of every kind. We paid about $20 per set.
We used FedEx. If you open a Shipping Account at fedex.com, you can do pretty much everything from your home computer and print out the postage labels (for both directions) and the customs information (documents - immigration papers) is noted in the shipping order so no need to fill out a separate customs form (we used a customs value of $1 because their system wigs out if it's $0. You will still need to use FedEx envelopes. We selected "International Priority" with return service. It cost about $40. Our package going to Ottawa weighed 0.2 pounds and this included the passport photocopies (not actual passports) and return envelope (which was slightly smaller than the Ottawa envelope so it would fit inside). We added a credit card to our FedEx account so that we could simply pay On Account for any postage and unforeseen fees at any point between A to B to A. This all said, you can do this from home, or using a kiosk at the fedex store. If you have questions the fedex store employee will gladly help.
