I am hoping I can get some help or assistance on how I should proceed.
I am from Trinidad, but I am currently living in Canada, my wife and I have submitted our application for my PR under Spousal Sponsorship in April 2019. My application is still In Progress, but my passport ( was well as my Open Work Permit) is expiring on March 9th 2020.
I have applied for a passport renewal through the Trinidad Consulate in Toronto about 3 weeks ago, but they said all renewals have to go to Trinidad and then come back to Toronto, and the processing times vary.
I know I must have a valid passport and status while I am in Canada but I don't know how to proceed.
1) Should I send correspondence to Immigration that I have sent for a passport renewal and still awaiting it?
2) Should I apply for a renewal of my Open Work Permit with my current Passport?
3) If I apply to renew my Open Work Permit with my current passport, does that give me Implied status until a decision is made?
