My husband and I got PR for canada and landed before few months. We went back to USA after landing. We are expecting a baby in a month. I have few questions:
1) My baby will be USA citizen. How she can get PR for canada? How much time it will take? Is it possible to sponsor her while staying in USA?
2) If she can get visa after few months, how she can enter in Canada?
3) How medical will be covered for the baby if we move to Canada?
congrats on the pregnancy, hope will go well.
1 - you need to sponsor your child. as both parents are PR ( from what I understand), at least 1 parent needs to be in Canada to sponsor. So you could have the baby in the US, then the father moves back to Canada and starts the sponsorship. Or both parents move to Canada with the baby.
2 - as the baby will have a US passport, she can come to Canada as a "tourist" - so you can travel to Canada, and at the border, ask for a 6 months tourist visa, explaining that you will apply for PR. As soon as you are in Canada ( both parents, or at least one), you can send the application to sponsor your child. How long it takes - that's difficult to know, it depends on the visa office. If you go through Ottawa, and it's a fairly simple case, then less than a year. In the meantime, you can keep on extending the visitor visa for your child, until the PR is granted.
3 - it depends on the province. Where are you moving to? BC and Alberta have special rule for children of residents, so for these 2 provinces, your child could be covered as soon as one of the parent is resident of the province. For the other provinces, I'm not sure - you might have to take a private insurance for your child.
My self and my wife are almost in the same situation, we became Canadian PR holders in 2011 and we returned to our home country
India, due to some family related matters, In the mean while we had our second daughter here in india, now we would like to return to Canada
with her , so what is the best way we can take her along and travel together please advise.
Hi..
Pls help.. What are the requirements for a new born baby? Im giving birth this coming june and my husband already applied as a sponsor.. Im from Philippines and my husband is in Winnipeg.. Thanks
Is your husband in Winnipeg a Canadian citizen or PR? (It makes a difference.) If citizen, then likely your newborn will automatically also be citizen already. If PR, then you will "add" your newborn to YOUR application as a dependent.
