I am planning to enter Canada (as PR) with a newborn that was never included in the initial PR application submitted a few years ago.
3 questions:
Any difficulties/situations I might face when entering the country with a newborn?
At what point I am able to sponsor my kid for Canadian PR?
Before my kid becomes a Canadian PR, can they get any healthcare/childcare benefits (if any)?
Thanks. I should say my PR application was submitted, approved and activated a few years before the baby was born.
In the next 12 months, I am planning to enter Canada as a PR with a newborn.
In that case you are fine to enter Canada with the baby as long as the baby has the required visa to enter (e.g., eTA, TRV, US passport).
You can sponsor your baby for PR immediately after you return to Canada as long as you meet the residency requirement.
Generally speaking, babies in this situation do not qualify for health care coverage until they have actually been approved for PR. You should take out private insurance to cover emergencies and plan to pay for any non-emergency care out of pocket.

The twist here is because of COVID, I haven't met the residency requirements (if I am reading this correctly). In other words, I haven't lived in Canada for at least 2 years out of the 5 years. Does it mean I will need to first meet the residency requirements (i.e. living in Canada for 2 years) before I can sponsor the baby?

Yes, you need to live in Canada long enough to meet the residency requirement before you can safely sponsor the child. If you do it earlier, you may put your own PR status at risk.
