I received my copr and am planning my landing. I saw that the processing times for a PR card are about 60 days. My partner will need to travel back home before 60 days for work (preferably a couple of times back and forth).
So he can:
- request a PRTD to come back to Canada
- request 'urgent processing' of our (or just his) cards.
On the CIC webiste it says that you can request urgent processing if you have a valid reason.
If we bring the required documents (proof), can we ask the officer at our landing (who will fill out my PR card application) to mark it as 'urgent', or will I have to do this myself afterwards, as per the instructions on the cic website?
Requesting urgent processing is meant for PR card renewals (not new PR cards).
Generally speaking CIC doesn't consider urgent requests for new PR cards. You should look into the PRTD process (note you can only apply once outside of Canada). Or your partner can travel to the US and re-enter Canada through a land border using a private vehicle and the COPR.
