PR card renewal accompanying canadian child

My son is canadian (born in canada). He is almost 6 years old. Our PR card is expiring soon and would like to renew it. We left canada soon after getting the pr and have been outside canada since. Are we eligible for PR renewal based on our son's canadian status ?

No. This is a common misconception. You have it the wrong way round. It sounds from your narrative that you are no longer in a position of being in compliance with the residency obligation requirements.

What zardoz said. No - you're not eligible to renew your PR card based on having a Canadian citizen child.

Your spouse would have to be a Canadian citizen in order to have this benefit. No such benefit comes with having a Canadian citizen child.
