hi
I want to renew my pr card after 10 years , my spouse is Canadian, both of us living abroad for 4 years, so not completed 730 days in Canada for last 5 years. Please let me know how to apply for renewal , pr valid till in april 2014.
You cannot renew your card until you have the correct number of days in Canada.
If you attempt to do so, it is highly likely that you will be reported for failing to meet the residency obligation requirements.
Since your days outside Canada accompanying your Canadian spouse count towards the residency requirements, you do meet them and can renew your PR card. However, you can not apply to renew it more than 6 months before it expires and the application must originate within Canada.
You are kind of supposed to be in Canada to renew your PR card but the rules say you can not be refused solely based on being outside Canada. However, since the application must originate in Canada, you should fill out the application forms and mail them to some Canadian relatives and have them mail them in. Write a cover letter explaining that you do not live in Canada but give a Canadian relatives mailing address for immigration to contact you at. Also send proof of being married to a Canadian and proof of you living at the same address.
Immigration could mail the new PR card to the Canadian mailing address but it's more likely since you are applying from the outside that they'll want to meet you and will request you to come in person and pick it up.
Another option would be not to renew your PR card right now but apply for a PR travel document when you are ready to return and apply for your PR card after you have returned.
Good catch... Completely missed the bit about the Canadian spouse. My apologies..
Re: pr card renew thanks leon
Thanks Leon,
One question do I need to provide last 10 yrs stay in Canada or only last five years in application for renewal , with tax papers for last 5yrs or 10 yrs.
They only want the past 5 years.
Re: pr card renew to Leon
Hi,Thanks for your early reply. One question what documents I need to submit to prove my case.

I have applied for the PR card (30 April, 2013), it is now three months since submitting the application, my application was returned due to missing signature, I resent the next day on June 24, 2013. I would like to know if my application date remains the original one or it gets reset to June 24 and I have to wait for another three months. Please advise

Normally with CIC, if an application is returned as incomplete, your clock starts again from zero.
