Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
My mom received her COPR in May 2024 and she will travel to Canada to finish the process and land in February 27.

Her visa is single-entry. I want to travel with her to Mexico (only for 1 week tourism and come back), ideally in early April this year. but not sure how feasible that is because:

- Current processing time for issuing and receiving PR cards is 22 days. I know from Feb 27 till April 1 is more than 22 days but it cuts it close!

- Not sure if she can visit Mexico using COPR ?!!

- How would she enter Canada (as her visa would be invalid - single entrance)

Appreciate any help!

If she has a US visa, she can return to Canada (e.g. on foot) by showing the used COPR to the border agents. Otherwise, by commercial flights, she would need a valid Permanent resident travel document.

Thanks for the response!

I'm assuming it's very unlikely for her to receive the PR card by April if she applies for it on Feb 27, correct?

I read about urgent processing, but not sure if she can mark it as urgent!

Urgent processing only applies for renewals. She's a first time PR card.

22 days isn’t guaranteed. We have seen some take substantially longer.

her visa is single entry because once landed she immediately become PR (who does not require a visa to enter)
she can’t enter Canada with COPR because it’s not a valid document for traveling (except for US land border)
therefore, if she landed as PR on Feb 27, she would need either PR card or PRTD to travel and re-enter Canada
22 days for first PR card is not guaranteed so plan your travel accordingly

Not guaranteed and when my wife landed last monday, the agent told it is more like 3 to 6 months of processing to receive the PR Card which is the valid piece for travel.

Oh wow! That's sooo long! Could you please update me when you receive it (just so I know the timeline)? Thank you! I will update here as well.

Also, what documents was she asked for landing? Any tips, gotchas, things to be aware of, etc.?

Hit or miss whether you will get the PR card or not. You would need to get really lucky to get the PR card in time. You can attempt to apply for a PRTD right away but there is significant risk returning to Canada may be an issue.

Nothing special besides handing the COPR papers and 2 photos per person (my wife and her daughter are 2 so 2 sets). Just basic questions like if there are changes, what is the address in Canada etc.

Also, the photo given to the agent on landing may be rejected. This happened to us (it was taken on landing but 2 weeks later, we received an email telling the photos is rejected) so we have to go take a new set of photos and send them, delaying further.
