I was in similar boat. My school was in Halifax but I first arrived at Montreal. You will complete your entrance to Canada in Montreal. They will give you your study permit paper. Make sure it is stated that you have permission to work off campus written under your study permit paper. After you get the immigration area, you are free to have a short trip until your next flight to Toronto. But be prepared to use your google maps to go by bus from Montreal airport. Bus drivers generally don’t know or speak English well. Don’t miss your flight while you are tripping in Montreal during your transfer time. Maybe staying and waiting in Montreal airport would be better. Also, you can buy “Phonebox” SIM card in the currency shop in Montreal airport. It s about 5 dollars. It is really the cheapest new commer SIM card. You activate your SIM card online by yourself. There are prepaid and postpaid plans very cheap. I still use Phonebox and 45 dollars for 25 GB and unlimited Canada+USA call and text as a post paid. You can choose prepaid first then you can change to postpaid on same number.
