We are asked for three certificates,
1. Certidao de Antecedentes Criminais issued by the Federal police through their website.
2. Same as above but issued by the state authority but we do this at the Forum(courthouse).
3. Certidao de Distribuicao Civeis e Criminais issued by the Federal Ministry of Justice through their website.

Ok no problem understanding this process so far but there is something we are wondering about. We spoke with the people
working at the Forum who would issue the CAC (state authority) and they can produce this document within a day and it's
very cheap only a few bucks, but it is only good for one month. So even if we wait until the last moment (always scary in Brazil)
before we get the document to include it in the application package it will be invalid by the time CIC in Sao Paulo looks at it.

So I'm wondering if this is normal and will fly anyway. Any comments?
Thanks

We are processing through Sao Paulo as well. The Police Certificates only need to be valid on the date you submit them to Mississauga, not the date that Sao Paulo receives them. If there is a problem, Sao Paulo will just send you a request for documents (which they did for us), not a refusal :) Getting documentation from Brazil is easy, really, as long as you are specific and know exactly what you need to ask for.

Hi Cdagal thanks for the reply.
This confirms what I thought.
Have you not received your passport back yet? I thought by now it would have.
Just wondering, what documents did they request from you that you did not include?

They requested a missing Nigerian police cert. (which we had applied for but had not yet received when we filed) and the one police certificate from Brazil was issued by the wrong authority (make sure you get the one they ask for on the CIC site, do not rely on Brazil to know what you need..lol).
The bring-forward date on our file is January 30, so I am hoping and praying to hear something next week!

Ah yes the Nigerian/Brazilian connection makes sense now.
I know not to rely on Brazil for anything other than drama!

I will hope and pray for you as well!

Cdagal is right. And you should note that validity is 3 months from the date of issue to submit with the sponsorship application to CIC. It has nothing to do with validity in the country of origin.

Cdagal, the passport with the visa hasn't been returned yet? Sheesh!
