I'm looking to confirm some info about the expiry of my police certificate. Is it correct that the police certificates we send in need to have been issued no earlier than 3 months before they were submitted as part of our application to Mississauga, or should they have been issued no earlier than 3 months before the file is transferred to the VO (London in my case)?
I got my police certificate from the UK issued on 31/08/2012. For various reasons however, we were only able to post our full application in November, and was received at the CIC office in Mississauga on 20/12/2012. Based on the three-month calculation, my UK police certificate is still valid, isn't it?

the first part is correct - but your certificate is not valid.
What it means is: once the certificate is issued, it needs to reach CIC within 3 months of being issued.
So - issued on the 31/08/12, your certificate should have reached Mississauga no later than the 31/11/12.
20/12/12 is too late. If you want to avoid delays, just get a new one already now. If you have been approved as a sponsor, you already have a File NUmber and a UCI.
Get a new UK certificate, send it to London directly with your file number in the reference letter, and explain that you realised your certificate was expired, and you're sending a new one.
It will save you time rather than having to wait for them to ask for it etc.
Good luck,
Sweden

I thought "submit" is the point of sending out. Does it mean "point of receiving" in Canadian English? If it is the former, your postage would verify that you sent it within the time-frame.

CIC counts everything based off of the date they received the application. I suppose one could argue with proof of postage, but if CIC asks for new police certificates, purple have no choice but to give them!
Thanks for your replies guys. I'm sorry but I made a typo in my first post Our application pack was received on 20th November 2012 (20/11/2012) not 20th December. I've got it correct on the timeline, but wrote it wrong within the text. That's why I said I assumed my police certificate is still valid. Apologies for the confusion I have caused....but NOW I am assuming that my police certificate is still valid, right? (It was issued on 31st August 2012 and received on 20th NOVEMBER 2012 - I've double checked the dates this time! )
