Does anyone have experience of getting Police Certificate from China? I stayed there in 2008-09 for about 9 months intermittently.
I contacted an agent from Shanghai to get the PCC but they say they need a letter from my company in Chinese mentioning how long I stayed there. They call it the work certificate. Now my company cannot provide such a letter after 7 years.
Although I provided my passport entry exit stamps/visa etc. the agent keeps on saying that I need this work certificate to get a PCC.
Anyone care to share their experience in this matter and any contacts who may be able to help me?

The US State Dept provides more info than CIC:
http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/CH.html
There are two noteworthy points:
"Certificates are available for those in the J-1, Z, and X categories. The GOC does not issue police records for temporary residents of China in L or F visa categories."
"Notarial police certificates are based in part upon records from an individual's employer. If an employer refuses to release records, the notarial office is not able to issue a certificate."
So that pretty much provides evidence that your agent is telling you the truth.
So if you can document your former employer's refusal to provide the work certificate (email, fax, letter), Then you could submit a letter of explanation along with your evidence that it is impossible to get the PCC.
When I did it, the agent in Beijing asked for copy of my passport, China Visa, my Temporarily Resident Permit, the address where I stayed and an authorization letter says you authorize them to get the check for you.
