I have a common law partner. However, I am not planning to include him in my application and rather, try with sponsorship later. Does this mean that my points are calculated based on "without common-law partner" and will not be reduced to the points mentioned under "with common-law partner"?
Thanks for the response. However, if we get married could I still list my spouse as non-accompanying in my application? I read some post from another forum member that got me confused/scared.

Yes, you can apply as married and spouse not accompanying to get more points. But I have heard that the process to sponsor your family later takes longer than including him in your PR application now.
Please note, even if your spouse is not accompanying you, you still have to get PCC and medicals done for him and even show funds for all both of you.
