yes he can but you have to make a strong declaration letter.... he need to explain why he is sponsering you?!! because stroner sponsers are Parents and spouse.. rest have a bit less strength!!! but if they give strong proofs and statements then its fine..... Try to make a declaration in a way that shows his strong concern about your study!!!!

i m not sure but i think just_do_it used this for his visa , not sure , try contacting him . he might help u out.
