Please help. Have no idea which route to take

Hi there. I am a British citizen who is planning to move to Canada. My girlfriend is a Canadian citizen so I will be living with her. My background is in engineering and i have a HNC in this field. However I am changing my career at the moment and am starting out as a post production video editor. I want to move over there as soon as possible but am unsure of which route to take. Should I find a job before I leave and get a work permit? Can you apply for a work visa if yo are already in Canada? Or should I get a working holiday visa (There are no places left for this year). Im sure I qualify as a skilled worker but am worried as this process seems to take a long time. Please help
