Hello. My Canadian mother (born in 1935 in Canada) married an American in the mid-50's and relocated to Michigan. She maintains her Canadian citizenship and never applied for US citizenship. I want to apply for Canadian citizenship while maintaining my status as a US citizen. I am 59 years of age - born in Detroit, MI ( in 1957). I will not seek employment in Canada. I may be interested in purchasing real estate that I will reside in seasonally. Will you please explain how I may proceed? I will appreciate any guidance provided. Thank you.
You can use the tool to get an idea if you are a Citizen: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/rules/index.asp
With the info you gave it does say you are probably a Canadian Citizen... you can find application here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certif.asp

I think your problem will be keeping both citizenships. The US does not take kindly to having two citizenships and will essentially tell you it has to be one or the other.
