I'm in a bit of a tricky situation here. My current post-grad work permit expires at the end of this month on the 30th, and I qualify for PR under CEC only 3 days before that on the 27th of September. I presently have a full time permanent job with my current employee and they have finally decided to go ahead and apply for the LMO just now after a long delay since it was their first time applying.
My question is what are my options in terms of extending my WP beyond the expiration of my current status. Should I apply for closed WP (while LMO gets processed) or go for the BOWP without having received an AOR (after applying under CEC) by including a cover letter detailing my situation.
I understand the BOWP has to be applied before my current WP runs out. Does the same apply for the closed WP too? As I said I will be applying under CEC on the 27th and my current open WP expires only 3 days after on the 30th of September so I am dealing with a bit of tight timeline here.
Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated as it can make all the difference. I just don't want to end up leaving the country and this job that I have worked so hard for.
Hi muhas.
I have similar situation my pgwp expiring on Oct 25 I am applying PR on 14 Oct and my Lmo is under process I am planning to apply bowp and close wp together on 21 Oct paper application.
My employer has already applied for the LMO so we're just waiting now but I need to take some action before my current WP expires and I am just confused as to what that course of action might be.

following are my suggestions in the below order
1 ask ur employer to file LMO based WP before ur current once expires
2 Apply PR under CEC /PNP asap
3 Once you get your AOR aplly for BWP if ur LMO WP has issues
BOWP - Bridged Open Work Permit
AOR - Acknowledgement Of Receipt
And here's what I would do:
If you intend to stay with your current employer, then go ahead and continue the LMO process and
use that LMO to apply for a closed work permit.
Chances are, that if you apply under CEC and send the BOWP application at the same time, that it will
be rejected.
And you can't wait for AOR, as one requirement for the BOWP is you have to hold a valid work permit at the time you apply.
1 ask ur employer to file LMO based WP before ur current once expires
Agreed.
2 Apply PR under CEC /PNP asap
Exactly! As soon as you become eligible. And give it a few days buffer for miscalculations. If you become eligible on day 25 wait until day 28 or so, to give some room to breathe.
3 Once you get your AOR aplly for BWP if ur LMO WP has issues
This is only possible if you currently hold a valid work permit, as he said his is going to expire soon, so chances are that by the
time he gets the AOR, his wp will be invalid.

muhas, I have replied to your PM. You can apply for the new TWP (with LMO pending) NOW, because it is within the two weeks before your current work permit expires (concurrent processing) - this is only for inland work permit applications. As long as you apply BEFORE your work permit expires, you'll be on implied status, and can continue working under the same terms as your old work permit. (Just don't leave the country until you get the new work permit).
