My printer recently died a most horrible death and now will only print black and white, i have only digital copies of my pics and dont really want to pay £50+ just to print them...black and white should be okay right? Also, i know -I- need 9 pics altogether, which i have to the specs, how many/does my husband need if he's the one sponsoring me?
How much detail does the 'how the relationship developed' need to be in? Like, we met on [date] and went to [exact location], or just a decent account?
Aaaaaand i think thats me done for today >.> (Thank you so much to everyone thats helping me!)

Hello Silver_Spirit

Based on what you wrote, i think there are 2 sets of photos you need to consider for your application

Photos for Proof of relationship - these would be wedding photos, trips, and anything else that would indicate that would lend credibility to your relationship

A second set of photos are for the Immigrant (the sponsor does not need to provide any photos for the application) And I believe there are 8 or 9 that need to be provided for this and they need to be taken with specific requirements that are set out in the application and should not cost that much at all.

I believe this is my understanding and if there is anybody else reading this thread that can concur that this is the case, please advise

Thanks

Yup i got those bits, just needed to know if its gonna be a big deal if the pics i have are black and white?

The immigration photos (the ones similar to passport photos) need to only be provided for the applicant. The sponsor doesn't need to get them.
How many you need is listed in the region specific guides - for London, you need 8 photos. The specifications are clear enough and those photos should be in colour.

The other photos serve as proof of relationship - I'm guessing that's the ones you have on your computer. I believe those should be fine in black and white, as long as things are clearly visible. Be sure to describe the photos - who's in them and approximately when they were taken (month and year is enough) and what the occasion was.

As for the development of your relationship, be as specific as you'd like and as you can be. If you don't know the exact dates of then things happen, it's enough to mention a month. My answer to this one was a 2 and 1/5 long letter, spanning the entirety of our relationship since the day we met until the day I applied. I didn't get into specifics, like exactly where we went. For example, I mentioned how I visited him in Canada in 2006, stayed there for 5 weeks and during that time, we went on a week long trip to Edmonton, where I met his extended family. And that was the entirety of my Edmonton trip description. Try to also explain why things happened, to put things in proper perspective - ie I explained how that summer I only stayed in Canada for 5 weeks because I had school to return to.

From what I understand you are planning to print the 8/9 pictures on your own? Unless i misunderstood
I could recommend paying the 8 or so quid (I assume you are in the UK) and just getting them done at one of those chain camera places.. thats what we did.
I think color is necessary yes.

Hehe no the passport style (but not) photos i went to a photographer and got done today - i was sincerely hopeing they would at least look different to the ones i get from photos booths but alas no! :p

And thanks, i got 100 or so printed out and think i am going to have to dig out some of the old ones i have around for scanning purposes (i dont want to give them my photos incase things get lost!) Ill be sure to label them with everything suggested, will a post it note suffice?

And for the relationship desc, thats excellent thankyou, ive only done up till the first time we met (four years ago) and have already written a page - i hope some poor soul doesn't really need to read all of it!

Heh, my entire Relationship Timeline is about 15 pages long. But hey, I'm a writer.

I think what you have sounds great Silver_Spirit. Some colored photos might help though, but all of this is speculation. I'm not sure if anyone can be 100% sure whether or not black & white photos carry weight versus colored photos. Just try to think of how the IO would feel viewing it. Are you really going to be denied because your photos aren't in color? Probably not. Best of luck to you!

I really hope they wouldnt deny it because of non colour photos - just thought i'd be on the safe side :P If i include some of my origional pics which are out of some albums, would i get them back at the end of the process? or is there no gaurentee?

How many photos did y'all send?

I probably included about 30 photos (plus maybe four-five letters postmarked with dates, plus wedding stories that ran in the newspaper, and other things, including passport stamps etc etc).

LOL i feel overprepared then, i have about 100 photos (without adding in any origional colour ones if i can avoid it) and about 30 emails dating back to 2006, i also need to track down some msn conversations :P Ive also got scans of all the plane tickets etc that i have and cinema tickets from when he was here etc etc

My application is very similar to both of yours, down to the movie tickets. Whether or not they accept them as valid proof, at least it's there.

Most people on this forum have said they've gotten their Proofs back (real photos for example, but not the scanned ones, same with cards and the like). What I did was print 2-3 photos per page for most pictures, but for the Wedding, Reception and Honeymoon I sent them the actual copies since I already had them saved on a WalMart photo album I can just order more prints from! My entire application probably had anywhere between 40-60 photos.

Hehe yeah i didnt think they would accept it as valid proof since it doesnt have our names on or anything, but in the 'how the relationship developed' thing ive said we went to go and see this movie this time we met etc etc n its nice to be able to back it up lol

wow!
you guys are really putting everything in! Thats probably a good idea
but just to let you know... (as ive had a VERY good experience and our case has been processed in 3 months- LONDON office) I did not include msn, or emails .. just a handful of pictures dating from the start of our relationship in march 2008 (including one with both our families in it), a bunch of flight itineraries with our names on it.. letter from the bank confirming we have a joint account.. and notarized letters from both our mothers confirming the validity and duration of the relationship

I don't know if this helps.. but i guess im just sharing what worked for me.

I wish i could be at the same point as you! I cant submit anything till after my medical and they couldnt fit me in till 10th of feb :( However that gives me a few weeks to triple check everything and work out where the heck to pay since the website links send me round in circles :P

I sent some 40 photos in total, half of those were from the wedding. I got them all back when I got the visa.
