Hey Guys
I am going to apply online for the PGWP around end of September. I think this will take anywhere between 30-45 days. Now, I want to travel to India for a holiday in November for 2 months. Is it possible that I can receive my PGWP and then go to India and then apply for a TRV in India to return to Canada?
My current TRV that I received with my study permit expires in December 2013.
By the way, I also have a 10 year US multiple entry visa, so can I fly from India to US and then come to Canada by road with just my work permit without the TRV?
Suggetions, please!!!
I think if you receive PGWP you will automaticallt receive TRV so no need to apply again for TRV in India

No, that's not true! Study permit or Work permit isn't the same thing as TRV.
I know but as you apply for study permit you automatically apply for TRV not differently. So I said if you apply for PGWP you automatically apply for TRV.

You're right about that, however, the procedure for PGWP from inside Canada is that you apply for it online, and once you receive it in the mail, only then you can apply for a TRV seperately (which means additional wait of 20-30 days over & above PGWP). Otherwise, how else will they stamp TRV in your passport if you're applying for PGWP online...
@ Ameet, you are ryt about TRV and study/work permit. Well, first of all, it's very important for you to obtain PGWP before you leave (my personal suggestion) and TRV doesn't take more than 2 to 3 weeks after you receive the PGWP confirmation and you can trust me on that (except the fact that these days work is going bit slow coz of these strikes). I would suggest you finish the process here first and then go to India unless it's of high emergency. US visa has got nothing to do with your TRV, I am assuming you are from India/pakistan/philli and these countries are not in the list of visa exempt countries to enter Canada, hence US Visa won't help you to enter coz study/work permit won't at all allow you to enter Canada, you need Visa (TRV) to enter a country.
Cheers!
Hi,
Better apply for TRV inside Canada.
Many people in this forum got their TRV rejected in home country.
Good Luck.

Firstly, now that you have PGWP, your study PERMIT is no longer valid. Now, if you want to enter Canada with your PGWP and your valid TRV that you got while applying for the study permit, then you can do that. There's no problem at all. Just make sure that next time you're going out of Canada, you apply for a new TRV before leaving.
Hello Parminder,
Lets not get confused between TRV and study/work permit. TRV is to enter a country and permits (study/work/visit) are to define your purpose. As long as you have valid TRV (which was issued to you earlier), you can very well enter Canada. However, as Ameet also said, you must get new TRV when you land here as your TRV is expiring in couple of months.
Cheers!
thanks a lot
