I have been going over my application forms today and reading the immigrants guide whilst going through the questions.
On Schedule 1 Background/ Declaration question 11 asks for details of your personal history since you were 18. BUT on the immigrants guide it says:
Personal history. - You must account for every month during the past 10 years or since the age of 18, whichever period is longer. Under “Activity”, print your occupation or job title if you were working. If you were not working, enter what you were doing (for example, unemployed, studying, travelling).
So i'm confused! Also in my application package that I got which is a few years old it says the same for Address but now in the more recent forms it just says since 18.
Had I not read the immigrants guide I could have submitted an incomplete question. I don't understand why the question on the forms wouldn't tell you to provide either like the guide tells you too? I am 23 so should I provide details since I was 13?
Please use the search option of this forum. I'm sure this question has been answered multiple times.

That's not correct. If you are 45 years old - you have to provide all historical information (addresses, jobs) since age 18.
The text is quite unambiguous - whichever is longer, so yes - you have to provide information since the age of 13. And it's just common sense - the more the better, they can always ignore what they do not need. I was 25 at the time of my FSW application, so I provided information from my age 15, and nobody complained about that.

You only have to supply the information from the age of 18.

Hello there,
We're the same age/same issue... yeah, you have to provide details when you were 18....not 13,14,15,16 or 17...that's minor ages though. The 10 years is only their limit especially for elder applicants ...

Sorry to question those who say only to 18 for people under 28, but to me the wording is very clear.
It says you have to do the longest period since the age of 18
or for the last 10 years, which for those under 28 would be 10 years and for shandymoo back until age of 13.

And this isn't quite right, for 'elder' applicants, you must go back to 18 i.e. the longer period.

Read Question 11 http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm0008_1e.pdf It says from the age of 18. Read question 15 it says from the age of 18.

Of course people can ignore the instructions but the application could be delayed, or more likely rejected.
I filled out the details for 37 years of life - !

I applied inland and at least on my application I had to provide only the info(addresses & jobs) for the last 10 years , i remember this requirement very well and the application HASN'T been returned to me( i sent it in July 2010). I'm 37
Inland and outland have different requirements about how far back you have to go. I had planned to apply inland and filled out most of those forms, and then decided in August to apply outland and had to switch forms. With the outland forms, I had to go back further with addresses where I had lived.

it's up to u how u understood that part. but, i'm just doing what i think is best and right and it's well-done.. im approved..!
From what I can tell the application for Inland states "10 years" and the application for Outland states "since you were 18 years old". So that is where the discrepancy comes from.
What Heatherusa is stated makes the difference between inland and outland application forms. I was in the best situation, for me 10 years back was exactly when I was 18.
