Hey, I've been working in Toronto for about 9 months now and since my existing work permit is about to expire, I'm in the process of getting a new young professionals work permit. I've been instructed by my employer that I'll have to go to the US border to activate the permit, and that I'll need to get my own personal health insurance that'll cover repatriation to Sweden or else my new work permit could get denied.
My question is for anyone who's had to do a border run to renew a current work permit or get a new work permit - what's the best and/or cheapest option available for personal health insurance here in Canada? Any specific insurance companies I should be looking at or avoiding? I have basic health insurance coverage from work but I've been told that won't be enough for the work permit process, so I'm a little lost on what my options are here.
