Hello,

I have a Question RE: Personal Affidavits.

I have just submitted a Spousal Application, and i have read that sometimes it is good to submit Personal Affidavits, regarding Family members
knowing the Spouse. I chose not to submit any, because i was unsure as to the proper definition of what an Affidavit must include. I didn't submit because
my Family have NOT yet met her: owing to the huge distance/financial cost for them to do so [my immediate family living extremely far from Cuba], and as
well as the near impossibility of my Wife obtaining Tourist Visas, to pass through other countries, to visit them.

My question is this: What is the defintion of an Affidavit?
Is it one where the person declaring MUST have MET the person they are declaring they know? Or, can it be
one where even knowlegde of the person [and communication with that person: Phone conversations/Facebook conversations] will suffice? For my Wife has had a few Phone
conversations and many Facebook conversations with my Mother and Father and my Sister, and where they [my Family] are in frequent and ongoing communication
with her, through Facebook.

I have read that most other Poster's have defined an Affidavit to be one where the declaring person has physically met the Spouse. However, as i have yet to read, or
even find, a formal defintion of what an affidavit must have in order for it to be considered valid, i may submit some Family Affivdavits with my spouse, if she is
asked to attend an Interview and to submit further evidence.

Is knowing the Spouse, in terms of being in regular [non- pshyical] communication with them, despite not yet meeting the spouse, enough for a family member to declare
a Personal Affivdavit for this Spouse?

Thanks.

An affidavit is simply a "sworn statement" that the following is true, whatever that is. Since your family has not "met" your spouse, I believe you did the right thing by not including any. It would have been pointless.
