Hello, I am currently working in Quebec on a temporary work permit. According to the permit, I am not allowed to "work" for another organization other than the one my permit is assigned to. I was wondering, though, if I am permitted to volunteer my time for charitable activities? A hospital is holding a fundraising event and I wish to volunteer for it - I am getting no remuneration for it, of course, just doing from the goodness of my heart. I was just wondering because some volunteer activities are actually considered "work." Thank you for helping clarify.
For something like this, you would be allowed to volunteer. Nobody is allowed to "volunteer" if the work they are doing would normally be PAID work. However, a hospital fund raiser or distributing food at the food bank or a church are things where normally everybody volunteers. Those are safe.
