My boyfriend is from Ireland and is currently working here in Canada on an approved work permit. We're trying to figure out the best way for him to acquire permanent residency but not sure which route to take. I found out today that applying as a skilled worker could take over 50 months! Ouch! I'm also wondering if we should get an immigration lawyer for advice. Can anyone tell me of their similar personal experience? Any advide would be great.
Thanks.
Your boyfriend is on a work permit, but you didn't say what your status is.
Also if your boyfriend is in Canada on a work permit, how long is the work permit for? He can always apply to Buffalo (if he has at least 67 points) and it takes about 2 years there.
Or alternatively, if you're Canadian, you can get married (i'm not sure how the common law spouse thing works) and you can file for him within Canada.
