Hi i am a canadian citizen and trying to sponsor my partner in africa i was on social assistance until september i want to know if thi is going to affect me sponsoring him???
You can still sponsor him. However, you should include evidence in the application that you are off social assistance. Get a letter from the welfare authorities verifying that you are no longer receiving it.
Some forum members were denied even though they were no longer receiving welfare, just because they were still listed on the provincial rolls.
i am trying to sponsor my husband from ghana,i have two kids with him and am presently not working could this affect me sponsoring him?and how long could all this take and what and what do i need. also need to know if he could do the process there in ghana or its better for me to do it here in canada?

As you have very recently been on welfare, the fact that you are not working could most definitely affect the app. How are you supporting yourself now?
You do not need a job to sponsor your husband, but when you do not have one, the visa officer might have concerns.
You should include a letter in the application outlining your plans for your life together in Canada when he gets his PR visa. You should explain where you will live, what jobs he will apply for, what job you hope to get, what you will use to support yourselves, etc. You should then include any proof you have. For example, if a family member is going to let you live in their house while you two look for jobs, have the family member write a letter stating this. If your husband has savings, show proof of them. If he has any property or goods in Ghana that he will sell, you should explain this and show proof of ownership. Basically, the visa officer wants to see that you have a plan about how to support yourselves once you are all in Canada.

Presently the Ghana timelines for application - if nothing is wrong with your application - is 8-10 months from the date of receipt of your application at Mississauga. Follow Canadianwoman's advice and you will be fine. Can you tell us if you are in Ghana or Canada?
