I applied for a study permit and I've just received a message on my CIC account requesting me to send to Canada Consulate my original passport within 30 days. This letter also states that my passport must be valid for the duration of my expected length of stay in Canada.
Then, I noticed that my current passport expires one year early of my course end date.
I'd suggest sending the passport you applied with, the study permit they issue you will be valid as long as your passport will. Then when you renew your passport and your study permit is about to expire, apply for a study permit extension with the new passport (you may need to show/send both passports). I've been in the same situation and that worked.

There won't be any problem.
They will issue your visa it will be valid according to the validity of your passport and than you can renew your passport, study permit & visa.
Your passport should be valid for 6 months (Minimum) when you enter Canada. If it will expire in 2018 than ofcourse it will be valid for more than 6 months at that time.
