Passport stolen or lost

My common law spouses passport was lost/stolen while he is visiting me here in Canada. We have already had the sponsorship approved and the file was sent to London on November 6th to start on the PR. We have a police report on the passport and he has applied for a replacement passport here in Canada through his consulate. My question is how do we go about advising immigration that his current passport has a new number??? We applied through Mississauga. As the passport that is now in his file will have been cancelled. When you have the new passport, you fax a copy of the bio data pages to London.
