Passport stamping: Extension beyond 30 days

Hi,

I am in a unique situation. My green card application with US is underway and I will get a biometrics notice in next 3-4 weeks. At the same time, my Canadian permanant residency was approved yesterday and CIC asked me to send my passport within next 30 days. I cannot do that since I need the passport for US green card fingerprinting.

Can I request CIC for an extension beyond 30 days till I get my biometrics for USCIS completed?

Not sure they are going to be forthcoming with an extension if you're claiming to be a permenant resident in another country...
