I got my passport request today , but my passport is expiring in september 2014.

Do you think my passport should be valid for more then 6 months ?

No, but you will be "forced" to land prior to your passport expiry date as your PR visa will expire at same date
 
You would get your VISA until Sep 2014, hence, you will have to do the landing before that....
