I am in US on H1 B visa. I have been receiving all correspondence from CIC, delhi on my US address for past 2 yrs. I received my passport request from CIC, Delhi last month. It specified to send the passport by secured mail.
I sent my passport to India thru a relative to India.
Now the embassy has sent me letter saying that they want an Indian address for mailing my passport.
But there is none thru whom I can get my passport back. Can I request the passport to be sent to my address in US.
(This is so irritating- A person in US can't request for his/her file to be moved to CIC, US --get a curt response will remain in delhi office and then u know u send a request for passport to be sent by secure mail to a person residing in US and then all of sudden when ur turn comes to mail back, u say " No can't mail back to US"..know am ranting but can't help it )

Can you pls suggest what are my options in this case.
Thanks

Re: Passport request

i think it is illegal to mail passport overseas from India. I am sure i have read that somewhere on this forum.

Two options.

1. Have it delivered to some relative home in India

2. Hire a Law firm and have it delivered at their office. This may cost a little

They will not send the passport out of india as it is illegal. You need to provide them with indian address may be address of a friend who took your passports from US.

Not necessarily, if your passport is needed in another country (for some reason or official work/identity verification etc.), you can send it if law permits from the country you are sending it from.

Not if the country is India.
