My boyfriend and I have a question regarding my passport request. He's Canadian and I'm US citizen, will CIC still request my passport to be stamped at one of their offices or as US citizens exempt from that?

You will just have to either send the passport (if it's not to Ottawa) or e-mail a copy/photo of the passport bio page. Then it will be sent back with COPR attached
Thank you so much for your response Parker. I was reading in the document checklist for country specific and I will already be including a copy of my passport. My question is would I need to resend it? Or will that copy suffice?

nope they will ask for another copy or scan of it for COPR. They requested new scans of my husbands even though we sent a notarized copy with our package last year.
USA is visa-exempt to Canada, so there is no need to send your actual passport for a visa, since US citizens don't need one to come to Canada in general.
In our case we scanned and sent in a regular photocopy of the passport with the original application. The visa office never requested an update, and just issued the COPR with no problems.

This is the case for Ottawa. LA, NYC, Seattle, and Detroit, will still ask for you to send your passport. LA requested my husband to send his via the mail.

Ahh ok i stand corrected then. I wonder why they do this when all other visa-exempt countries don't require physical passport? Going forward I heard those US offices are closed so all US will be processed through Ottawa.
