Hi all,
I got ITA in the previous draw. My doubt is that my passport expires in one more year. Which option is better?
1) I should submit my current passport details now and get my passport renewed later
2)I should get the passport renewed now before submitting my application
Please let know if there is any better solution apart from these two
Thank you in advance
KKumar
If you can get a new passport within 60 days you could, but in the end it probably won't matter because your COPR expiry date will be 1 year after you did your medicals, assuming your passport will still be valid by then. If not, COPR expiry date will be the same as your passport.
Thank you for your reply but please correct me if I have not understood it properly .
My passport expires on 27 March 2017 (little more than a yr).
I will submit my Application by 1 Feb 2016. If I get the COPR by Aug 2016 , will COPR will expire on 27 March 2017?
If I get my passport renewed , will it create any problem? Can I update my profile with the new Passport ID?
Also my IELTS score sheet is linked to my current passport.
thank u
COPR expiry date will be:
1) Passport expiry date;
2) 1 year after your medical exams.
Whatever comes FIRST. So, if your passport expires on 27 March 2017 but you had your medicals done in 10 October 2015 (i.e.), your COPR will expire on 10 October 2016. That's why you don't have to get a new passport, it just won't make a difference.
Understood!!! Thank you
One more query
Once I land in Canada before COPR expires, I will still have to return to my home country to get it renewed right?
It depends on your local regulations. For some countries it can be renewew in Canada, through the country's Embassy.
My husband's passport was expiring 3 months after submission of application. he renewed it in the meantime and just updated cic via cse. He is the principal applicant and renewed his passport through our Embassy here in Canada.
How about submitting my PR application with my current passport , and getting it re-issued before travelling?

That's what we did. And they didn't refused an application based on passport expiry date. you can see in my signature filing date, and passport was expiring on Nov. 21 2015.
We are still in process and actually we don't know what's gonna be next, but we received message that we passed our eligibility.
Thank you munika.
Is there anyone else who has faced the same issue and responded in any other way??
cheers KKumar
