I am a US citizen and was previously being sponsored for permanent residency by my Canadian wife. Our relationship has broken down and she removed sponsorship. However I received a work permit before she removed sponsorship. My work permit is valid until April 9th, 2021, but my passport expires April 4th, 2020. I spoke with an immigration lawyer and she told me that I am extremely lucky and that the work permit should normally expire on the same date as my passport. She says I can renew my passport when it's time and the work permit is valid until the date printed. I know she is knowledgeable but I'm just curious if anyone here has seen this happen before?

A quick Google returned this, assume maybe is still valid but as a minimum check the fee is current given post is 4 years old. Sure there are other more recent posts easily found in the forum if you search.
