Hi guys,
My common law partner and I applied for him to sponsor me in June 2017. He received eligibility to sponsor me in June 2018, and I passed me eligibility on July 11,2018. Everywhere I look people say you get the request for your passport a week or 2 after you pass the eligibility but it’s been a month and a half and all they are telling me is that they are still doing the background check. They will not give me any more information. Neither of us has any criminal background whatsoever, and I’ve lived in Canada since I was 18 years old. We’ve been common law for 10 years. Any idea why it is taking so long? Does that mean it’s a bad sign?

Hard to answer without more details - for example knowing your current status in Canada, how you applied for PR (outland or inland, and with or without an open work permit). Background checks are individual and can take different lengths of time for different people.
If you want more information about the status of your file, order your GCMS notes.
