Hi guys, I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who landed today. She's from the Philippines and her son is still there. He's 2 years old. He hasn't landed yet, she can't go and get him until January and his visa ends in December. He only has to land in Canada and he'll be a pr. what should she do? Can she extend his visa, or does she even need to if he only has to land? Cic told her she has 3 month to bring him.
Would it be an option for her go have someone bring her child from the Philippines? Perhaps a relative would be helpful if she would pay the return ticket?
I'm not sure that an extension of a CoPR is possible, but it can't hurt to contact CIC about the case.
She could try contacting the visa office and see if they will extend the deadline. Find out quickly. If they won't (and I don't think they will) she should make other arrangements to get him here before the deadline. If not, she will have to start the processing all over again. It would be cheaper to pay for the airfare than to go through the whole application process again.

Thank you, I know there is the $ issue, I will let her know to contact cic about the possible extension.

A case specific inquiry would probably be a good way to do it. That leaves a "paper trail" that's some documentation of her attempt to rectify the situation.
I agree with Aquakitty on this, the reason why she didn't bring the child with her is very relevant to the situation. You need to look at the situation objectively, CIC are going to need some pretty strong evidence of a very good reason for a mother to land as an immigrant without her child. An explanation as to why she can't go and get in within the time frame won't be sufficient.
