I'm sponsoring my parents and just got notification for them to complete biometrics and medical within 30 days and they are currently in China. However, China VACs are temporarily closed due to the conoravirus situation in China. I haven't called the panel physicians (I will be calling later today) but I'm suspecting that they are closed also.
Currently, China currently VACs are saying temporarily closed until Feb 20th which still leaves time for them to go but the deadline to visit is within a week from Feb 20th. So I'm hesitant on applying for extension because there is a chance that they could be done before the deadline but I'm also worried if they stay closed then I may not have enough time to apply for an extension.
My question is:
1. would apply for a delay in this situation hurt my application?
2. where should i be applying for a delay for both biometrics and medical?
3. how long does it take me to hear back whether i'm approved for an extension for both of the above?
Don’t have a specific answer but guess you could start by contacting the embassy/consulate, there is a specific email address for immigration matters, worth a go to get advice.
Also raise a web form enquiry to get advice on the circumstances, believe this may be the link although not sure which category you would select. Seems the situation is evolving all the time and IRCC have yet to catch up with any difficulties people will now encounter.

Thanks for this! I was actually trying to look for this form...I think I might try calling first thing Monday and if that doesnt go anywhere then go with this form. I think the closest one is sponsorship...

It may take a while to hear back, but they will certainly grant an extension until the VACs are open again. This won't hurt your application. It might delay it a bit until the VACs reopen. I would submit a case specific inquiry vs. calling since the embassy / consulate.
