I am in the process sponsoring my mother to move to Canada as a permanent resident and may be adding my father to the application too. My father has been required to be involved in my mother's application by submitting medical tests etc as part of my mother's application.
I meet the sponsorship requirements for both parents and I am wondering if adding my father to the application can affect the decision for my mother? Or if I add my father, will both parents be provided independent decisions e.g. mother is approved and father is rejected.

It's a joint decision - not independent. For example, if one is refused for medical reasons - both will be refused.
Note that it's immaterial if you add your father to the application or not. He must pass the medical regardless. Even if you are only sponsoring your mother, she will be refused if your father can't pass the medical.

Thanks, @scylla! So the background check etc for my father, affects my mother's application? So it makes no difference at all to add my father to the application?
