OWP/ Trip / Ending visa

Hello Members,

What would you do in my situation?

I'm waiting for my OWP (pilot program, received by cic on Jan. 29). My study permit ends in August 2015.

I'm flying back home end of July.

If I don't get the OWP before my trip, what should I do? I won't be studying anymore after August anyway. I'm from a visa exempt country and applied inland for PR in Sept. 2014.

Can I apply for any kind of visa/extention/ anything?

Hmmmm tricky.

I'd suggest going home in July as planned, presumably it's just going home for a visit and then coming back to Canada, since you have to maintain residence in Canada with an inland application.

Leaving Canada before you have your OWP is risky. If you are refused entry then CIC may consider your application abandoned since you are no longer resident in Canada. It's a small chance, but it is a chance.

When you do come back to Canada, bring proof that you applied for sponsorship - copy of your receipt, screenshot from ECAS, copy of your delivery receipt, that sort of thing. Also show funds that you can support yourself and that you understand the restrictions you face as a visitor in Canada.

If you can avoid travelling outside of Canada, though, that's probably a better call, you can apply online to change to visitor status when your study permit ends. This is the safer option in my opinion.

If you have your OWP before July then you shouldn't have any issues re-entering Canada.
