Looking for some clarity as I'm still a bit baffled by what I've read.
I am over 35 from Australia looking to spend up to 3 years working in Canada (with wife/kids in tow). Currently a middle manager in civil construction status and looking for work in the oil and gas business.
How would I be fixed to get a work permit, all would I need some kind of sponsorship from my employer?
You would first need to find an employer in Canada who is willing to offer you a job. As a next step, that employer will have to advertise the position for a minimum of four weeks to prove a Canadian could not be found for the role. Once this advertising requirement is met, the employer must apply for a Labour Market Opinion (LMO). If the LMO is approved, you can then come to Canada and obtain a work permit at the port of entry (i.e. as you enter Canada).
