Can I apply as Outland while I am in Canada? I didn't plan on going home until easter but wanted to apply outland next week

Is there any tricks to doing this ?

no, there's no trick. it is an option listed on the checklist, so check the appropriate box. whether you're currently in canada has no impact on the processing of an outland application. it will be processed based on your citizenship. people submit outland applications while in canada every day without issue.

Make sure that you clearly label that this is an outland application, maybe with a letter of intent or something. I filed outland while in Canada and they accidentally filed me as inland (which takes a lot longer!) and getting them to re-file it was a nightmare! It shouldn't be an issue, just make sure it's very clear.

I plan on adding a cover letter that states it is Outland :)

Hi may i know how did u get to know that ur was sent for inland ..and how did u manage them to re-file it ..i applied outland living in canada .. but i did not mention any other cover letter mentioning that its an outland application but i did mark the correct option in the document checklist .so is it asomething i should be worried about as i did not label it as outland separately ??
Thanks

Make sure you use the application guide for outland - the inland application package is quite different.

I only figured it out when I saw people that filed around the same time I did were seeing progress in their applications and I hadn't heard anything. I called the visa office and they confirmed my suspicion that it was filed as inland. We had to contact our MP's office and they helped us refile the application. Then they asked us to resend a bunch of documents. I originally filed in June, realized things went wrong in September, and it was fixed in October.

That used to be true for the old forms (pre-December 2016), but the new forms (after 16th December 2016) are the same for both.

The way you apply for inland vs outland is determined by how you answer Q4 on IMM5533 (Document Checklist).

Box 1 is for INLAND sponsorship
Box 2 is for OUTLAND (actually living outside Canada)
Box 3 is for OUTLAND (but living in Canada)

Note that WHERE you send the pack is different for Box 1 (Inland) to the address for boxes 2 and 3 (Outland). Although confusingly, it is the same address for both inland and outland if you use a courier!

PS - hands up anyone who knows what 'convoked' means without googling it :D :D

Thank you for this detailed reply! I will be selecting box #2

One more thing to remember, is don't put your home country address as your residential/mailing address, because if your mailing differs from your residential they may send your app back for not having a "use of representative" form.

can you elaborate?

i am applying outland but i am currently in canada visiting my husband. Should i use his address as the current mailing address? I have my residential address set as my address in the usa and i checked the box where it says "same as mailing address"

What do i do? this small little detail is very confusing

You must use your residential address (the principal applicants - the non-Canadians - as the mailing address. This is because they are dealing with you, not your sponsor, so if you use your sponsor's address and your formal 'residential address' is elsewhere, you must include the form to allow your sponsor to 'represent' you.
