My current status is Permanent Resident (PR) , but my Citizenship Application is already in progress.
I am currently staying in USA temporarily with my wife and will be back to Canada in next 2 weeks.
So I have following questions:
1. Should I wait until I return to Canada and then start the Spousal PR Application or can I still do it while staying in USA as well?
2. After applying for Spousal PR and application is in process, can I leave Canada after I become a Citizen and I am no longer a Permanent Resident (PR)?
Please suggest what would be the safe approach without any complications and risk of application rejections.

1. You must be in Canada to sponsor your spouse
2. Technically leave after citizenship but you’d need to prove that you intend to settle in Canada with your spouse. Unless your spouse plans on moving to Canada with you after getting PR they may not be able to count time towards residency while accompanying a Canadian citizen abroad.
